RO/UF Membranes
RO/UF Membranes
Water treatment processes employ several types of membranes. They include micro-filtration (MF), Ultrafiltration (UF), reverse osmosis (RO), and nanofiltration (NF) membranes. MF membranes have the largest pore size and typically reject large particles and various microorganisms.
UF membranes have smaller pores than MF membranes and, therefore, in addition to large particles and microorganisms, they can reject bacteria and soluble macro-molecules such as proteins.
RO membranes are effectively non-porous and, therefore, exclude particles and even many low molar mass species such as salt ions, organics, etc.
NF membranes are relatively new and are sometimes called “loose” RO membranes. They are porous membranes, but since the pores are on the order often angstroms or less, they exhibit performance between that of RO and UF membranes.
RO/UF MEMBRANES
Most MF, UF, RO, and NF membranes used in industrial and commercial ro system are synthetic organic polymers. MF and UF membranes are often made from the same materials, but they are prepared under different membrane formation conditions so that different pore sizes are produced.
Typical MF and UF polymers include poly(vinylidene fluoride), polysulfone, poly(acrylonitrile) and poly(acrylamide)-poly(vinyl chloride) co-polymers. Poly (ether sulfone) is also commonly used for UF membranes. MF membranes also include cellulose acetate-cellulose nitrate blends, nylons, and poly (tetra-fluoroethylene). RO water plant membrane (RO membranes) is typically either cellulose acetate or polysulfone coated with aromatic poly-amides for ro membrane purification system. NF membranes are made from cellulose acetate blends or poly-amide composites like the RO water plant membranes, or they could be modified forms of UF membranes such as sulfonated polysulfone.
At this figure, you can see the RO water plant membrane working principle. Industrial RO membrane purification systems use 8040 size membranes. Commercial Ro system uses 4040 size membrane.

If you want to use other brand ro water plant membrane we can also supply for industrial and commercial ro system application.
Chunke has also UF membrane, we have our own brand and also well known brand. UF membrane is different than commercial ro system membranes. You can see the ro membrane purification system’s membrane and ultra-filtration system’s membrane pores size as micrometers.
Commercial ro system membrane can reduce TDS but UF membranes does not reduce TDS because of the pore size. If you want to reduce your water TDS, you should us RO membrane purification system.
