Industrial Reverse Osmosis System
INDUSTRIAL REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM
First of all, we understand what is industrial reverse osmosis system technology. Then, we explain type of industrial RO water filtration systems. Hence, you can understand and learn all details reverse osmosis water treatment.
What is reverse osmosis?
Reverse osmosis removes organic and inorganic matters from unfiltered water, or feed water, when pressure forces it through a semipermeable membrane. So, water flows from the more concentrated side (more contaminants) of the RO membrane to the less concentrated side (fewer contaminants) to provide clean drinking water. The fresh water produced is the permeate. The waste water left over is the concentrate accordingly
A semipermeable membrane has small pores so that block contaminants but allow water molecules to flow through. Hence, in inverse osmosis, water becomes more concentrated as it passes through the membrane to obtain equilibrium on both sides. However, Reverse osmosis, blocks contaminants from entering the less concentrated side of the membrane. For example, when pressure is applied to a volume of saltwater during reverse osmosis, the salt is left behind and only clean water flows through.
How does industrial reverse osmosis system work?
Reverse Osmosis is a technology that is used to remove a large majority of contaminants from water by pushing the water under pressure through a semi-permeable membrane. So, when we are talking about industrial reverse osmosis system, we use 8040 size reverse osmosis membrane.
RO membrane sheet has three layers. These are Polyesterbase, Polysulfane Layer and finally Polyamide Layer. And RO membrane producer gives a form to membrane sheet as follows:
Between each membrane sheet, there is feed spacer, it allows water flow and with pressure, water pass through semipermeable membrane. As you see, flow is spiral direction.
Untill now, we explain how reverse osmosis membrane work, now we explain whole system from flow diagram.
First of all, we send dirty water to pretreatment filter tanks by booster pumps (raw water pumps). Filter tanks depend on project can be Sand Filter (Multi-media filter), Carbon Filter, Water Softener.
Pre-treatment for industrial reverse osmosis system
Sand Filter: Sand filters or media filters are most efficiently utilized during operations that require the removal of large amounts of suspended solids in water.
Carbon Filter: Activated Carbon or Anthracite filtration media is a great filtration material to remove and filter out turbidity and total suspended solids for the purposes of TSS water treatment.
Water Softener: Water softener is the process of ion-exchange, water softener systems work in removing magnesium and calcium found in the water by replacing them with sodium ions. We put ion exchange resin in water softener tanks and use brine solution for regeneration of resins.
After Filter tanks, water goes to cartridge filter housing. This filter has PP cartridge filter inside, and responsible to remove any particle to reach membrane.
Finaly, water comes to reverse osmosis membrane and ro membranes remove all bacteria, viruses, minerals and small particles. Hence, you get very pure water.
